While the notorious rapper and music producer was not there on March 25th, two of his sons were. Both enjoyed brief detention under handcuffs before being released.
But this was hardly their first brush with law enforcement. One of Diddy’s son, Justin Combs, had been arrested less than a year earlier for Driving Under the Influence in Los Angeles. Despite running a red light and having a blood alcohol content above .08%, Diddy’s son walked away without jail time, which might very well shed some light on how the current lawsuits and accusations will impact his father.

Billionaire rapper and music producer Sean Diddy Combs has dominated the spotlight, especially after his properties were raided last spring. However, his sons have also been entangled in some of the lawsuits filed against him.
The majority of the allegations brought forward by several women and a few men across over half a dozen lawsuits focus on the father’s actions and behavior. He is accused of a number of harmful acts, including sexual assault, verbal and physical abuse, and perhaps most importantly, trafficking of both drugs and people.
Just one of those lawsuits, brought by producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, includes damages of upwards of 30 million dollars. It was also the lawsuit for which the raids were organized to gather and preserve evidence. Rodney Jones is also one of the witnesses mentioned in another victim’s account. He purportedly has video evidence of harassment and abuse by Diddy, as well as at least one of his sons.
So, why aren’t Diddy or his sons in jail?
It is too early to say whether or not Diddy will end up doing any hard time for the accusations laid out in the lawsuits. They have already cost him some money, having settled one of them out of court just a day after his ex Cassie Ventura filed it (the same Cassie who could be seen being beaten and dragged by Diddy in the surveillance video released by CNN this spring). The rest will cost even more, especially once you add up all his lawyers’ fees.
However, given the state of the case, it is hard to judge whether they can help him avoid any convictions or even any jail time like his son Justin Combs managed to do just last year.
The facts of Diddy’s son’s case are far more clear-cut than those of his father. Police pulled him over after running a red light, after which he failed a sobriety test and then was discovered to have a blood alcohol level over the legal limit of .08%.
Like the evidence against his father, Diddy Combs, it seems to be overwhelming. And yet, as DUI/DWI defense lawyer Randall Inniss explains, that does not always mean a conviction if you have the right arguments and an attorney ready to defend them.
While Justin Combs was arrested for driving under the influence, he did not end up getting convicted for all the charges against him. He was able to avoid jail time by, you guessed it, making a deal with the prosecution.
With the help of a skilled DUI/DWI defense attorney, Justin Combs pled guilty to having a BAC above 0.08%. He avoided more serious DUI/DWI charges. Through negotiation and other arguments, his lawyers convinced the judge to avoid prison. Instead, they secured a probation sentence, reducing the three-year term.
Only time will tell if the mounting case against Diddy will lead to an arrest. Still, we can already tell that his lawyers are working overtime to get the lawsuits and individual lawsuit documents dismissed. They are denying the facts, smearing the plaintiffs, and gathering evidence of their own.
A federal case, like the one the raid may lead to, will be more challenging to fight than his son’s DUI/DWI. Already, a close associate, Brendan Paul, has been arrested. Paul is allegedly a drug mule for Diddy and may be involved in a possible RICO conspiracy. The rapper could face significant charges as the investigation continues.
Though neither of Diddy’s sons was arrested yet, they may be on the eventual list for prosecution. And they may find organized conspiracy charges much more complicated to refute, as YSL rapper Young Thug is discovering in Georgia over the course of a two-year case. A case during which the rapper has been in jail ever since his initial arrest.
Who knows, perhaps two years from now, it will be Diddy sitting behind bars. Fortunately for you, the average person is infinitely more likely to face a simple DUI/DWI charge like those Justin Combs endured than a full-blown criminal conspiracy case like Diddy.
